First Thursday Global Prayer
Join a Growing Movement of Intercessors
On the first Thursday of each month (8 a.m. EST), Movement.org hosts a 30-minute prayer call that unites leaders across the world.

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
– Habakkuk 2:14
There are billions of people around the world living without the knowledge or hope of the Gospel. We believe lasting Gospel Movements begin when Christian leaders come together in prayer, united around a shared vision for the spiritual and social flourishing of their cities. Each month, the First Thursday Global Prayer Call brings together Christian leaders from across the globe to pray for one another, for their cities and for the advancement of the Gospel.
The First Thursday Global Prayer Call is a 30-minute Zoom gathering that connects leaders from the United States, India, Africa, the Middle East, Brazil and beyond. Each month features a different region of the world, giving participants an opportunity to hear what God is doing, learn about the unique opportunities and challenges facing that region, and pray together for Gospel Movements to take root and flourish.
Since 1988
First Thursday Prayer has a rich history dating back to 1988, when Mac Pier, founder of MOVEMENT.ORG, began a prayer partnership with Richard Galloway, founder of New York City Relief (now City Relief). Those early meetings at the Salisbury Hotel in Manhattan grew to include pastors and leaders from across the Metro New York City region. For several years, Pastor Adam Durso helped lead First Thursday Prayer, drawing a new generation of young leaders into the movement.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, First Thursday Prayer shifted online and continued in that format until June 2025. That season laid the foundation for today’s global format, connecting Christian leaders across nations in united prayer each month.
