The U.S. City Leaders call on February 4th featured the teaching of Eric Swanson, author of To Transform a City, as he combined a detailed recipe for city-reaching strategies with the importance of one key ingredient: Hope. Swanson’s wisdom included a series of questions that every city leader should consider – What unifying action are you calling people to? What is the simplest thing an individual can do to be part of your city movement? What good should thrive or what evil should die because your organization came to your city? If movements are built around united action and self-sacrifice, what are you doing to accommodate both? The good news is that God will bring the awakening in His time and His way; we are simply called to lay the foundation in hopeful expectation. “We raise the sail, start rowing, pray for God to send the wind,” Swanson said. His longtime friend and colleague, Rick Rusaw of @gloo, also highlighted some observations from recent surveys with church leaders. Pastors are battling the sustained stress and extended ambiguity of the pandemic, and what they need most is our encouragement, he said.
